The core concept of the Law of Attraction is that, “thoughts become things.” Thus, intentionally or unintentionally, you are brining into your life the things you think about the most. If you continually think about all the things that you do not have or do not want then those are the things that you will continually to receive. What you think controls your life. This concept is present in many systems or belief spanning science and religion. Behavioral science supports the fact that our thoughts create our emotions. Advancements in Quantum physics support the fact that our minds create our reality; that without our minds to perceive it, the universe as we know it simply wouldn’t exist. The science behind neurogenesis and neuroplasticity supports the fact that we can change our behavior, our emotions, and our reactions – even on an instinctual level – only using our thoughts. Christianity espouses that “Death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21). Likewise, Matthew 5:27-28, Titus 1:15, and Ephesians 5:27 all address the concept of sins of the mind while Proverbs 4:23, Romans 12:2, and Philippians 4:8 address the virtue and benefit of right thinking. Adherents of Buddhism shares similar views, with popular quotes including “We are shaped by our thoughts,” “what we think, we become,” and “whatever a monk keeps pursuing with his thinking and pondering, that becomes the inclination of his awareness.” Your mind is literally creating your experience of life, every second! So what about changing your thinking into thinking that will allow you to focus on and receive the things you truly want and need in your life?
Applying the law of attraction begins with being and thinking positively and expressing gratitude through thoughts, feelings, and actions. The things you think affect everything around you. So if you are complaining, thinking negatively, or are doing nothing about the very things that you do not like or want in your life than you are actually – in effect – causing and reinforcing the things that you do not like and do not want to be present in your life. The solution to this begins with just simply shifting your thinking to from negative, self-deprecating thoughts to positive and up lifting thoughts.
ANTs (automatic negative thoughts) can interfere with your ability to think positively, and work against getting the things that you want in your life. Automatic negative thoughts crop up due to irrational beliefs, which we all hold about ourselves to some degree. Challenging these beliefs with positive thinking is a HUGE first step in truly utilizing the law of attraction in your life.
After taking into account positive thinking the next process is simply asking for what you want. The best, and possibly the easiest, way to do this is with affirmations. As simple as this may sound, there is a secret to speaking through affirmation. You must ask for what you want as if it already happened (or it is happening in the moment). Many people practice their individual affirmations daily, silently saying them in their mind, saying them verbally out loud, and / or writing them down to carry with them where they go. As you think about what you want – as a reality – you are breathing life into that concept of what you want in your life, and allowing it to exist. Every time you think, speak, or read your affirmation(s), you unconsciously give yourself permission to have that thing; you open your life to the possibility of what you want, and you allow that thing to exist in your life. So say them often, think them even more, and put them somewhere that you will see them multiple times per day.
Visualization is another crucial aspect of breathing life into the reality that you want to occur. To bring about the things you want to happen you need to visualize the experience. Again, you must visualize what you want to happen as if it were already happening right now. It is helpful to ask yourself what does having what you want look like, and then create a visual experience of what you are asking for. There are several common ways to do this. Meditation is one highly effective for visual manifestation. Art is another, and in creating a physical representation of the reality you desire automatically puts you in the mindset (again) of allowing and receiving that. This doesn’t have to be a huge, entailed endeavor. It can be as simple as creating a collage with pictures from magazines and / or the internet (i.e., a Vision Board), or even creating a board on Pinterest.
The last step is creating an experience of what having what you want would feel like in that moment. As you are visualizing what it would look like to have what you want, you need to simultaneously create the positive feelings of already having that in order to pull it into existence. You can ask yourself how it would feel to have what you want. Living in the experience makes it a reality for you in your life.
When working with the law of attraction it is imperative that you incorporate all four concepts simultaneously, and in parallel, to reach the full effect of reality. By thinking positively, asking for what you want exactly like it is already happening, visualizing it like it is happening now, and feeling like it has already happened, you can bring your desire to life. The law of attraction is simply breathing new life into a concept by creating the possibility for a new reality.
