For many years, healing has been one of man’s most sought after processes. The need to spring back to life has been essential from time immemorial. There have been many different healing concoctions made by man, from that time up until this very moment. Some include the use of herbs, plants, peculiar animals, or unique parts of animal’s bodies. Speaking of animal body parts as an integral part of the healing process, we will be talking about Kambo treatment and the role it plays in the healing process.
Before delving into knowing what the treatment is, it would be best to know how it came about, hence the question, “what is Kambo?”
What is Kambo Treatment?
Kambo is a term used to describe the venomous secretion from the native Amazonian frog – the monkey frog, also known as the giant leaf. The frog can also be found in regions of dense rain-forests such as Bolivia, the eastern part of Peru, Venezuela, the northern part of Brazil, and other regions. The locales outside Brazil have a name for the frog, and it is Sapo (this is what both the toad and its secretion is called, otherwise known as a toad).
Therefore, Kambo treatment is the use of this secretion from
the frog in a specific healing process. Ideally, Kambo is believed to be used
not only for healing purposes, but they also have some form of purifier that
helps to detoxify the body. It was first discovered by the legendary Paje Kampu,
who at that time was a shaman of Amazon. He learned how to collect the frogs
through help from the spirits. They led him to follow the distinctive sounds
made the frogs.
Since his discovery, Kampu was able to also learn, by the help of the gods, how to extract and use this extremely potent secretion from the frog upon all members of his clan. This shamanic healing method proved very useful as it cured lots of diseases that seemed to have held a lot of his clan members down.
Kambo Treatment in Recent Times
After its use in ancient times, the popularity of Kambo is getting on the high side as more western people have been trained to make Kambo sticks. Ceremonies are held where Kambo sticks are made, and some can even be purchased online.
Kambo and Modern Medicine
According to modern-day science, and experiments carried out on Kambo, it has been found to contain peptides. These peptides are amino acids that are bound to the receptors of human cells. Secretion of the substance from frogs (called the phyllomedusa bicolor) contains a lot of peptides which are significantly needed by the body.
these peptides include phyllokinin, phyllocaerulein, sauvagine, dermaseptin B2,
deltorphins, phyllomedusin, adenoregulinand dermorphin. All the peptides
mentioned above have specific roles they play in the body and help tackle
different sicknesses. Among the above mentioned, the Dermaseptin B2 is used
medically to cure cancer. It has been discovered to inhibit cancer cell growth
by over 90 percent.
In conclusion, Kambo treatment is not only excellent for psycho-spiritual and shamanic healing, but it also has essential medical benefits that everyone can benefit from.
